Sierra's First Nativity Play

Sierra joined four other Year 1 & 2 classes (think Kindergarten and 1st Grade) to perform a 40 minute Nativity play.  Yes, I said 40 minute play (musical really).  Oh right and a full blown nativity performance at school.  In the states, we would never think of mixing religion and schooling.  However, it is a tradition that each grade level performs the nativity play.

This year's play was entitled "Gabriel's Big Break."

If you want to know more about the actual play, click here to listen to songs and read a plot summary.

The students performed the play in their cafeteria.  There were so many children involved in the production and there were only limited seats.  That the students had two different performances on two different days.  Parents could only select to attend one performance and were given two tickets total.  There was even staff member at the door collecting tickets.  They did not open the doors until 10 minutes before the performance.  It was 35 degrees outside and parents began lining up 45 minutes before the performance.  It sort of felt like graduation only it wasn't.  It was a nativity play.

The actual performance was amazing.  I couldn't believe what the teachers got each child to do.  All the kids had to learn 8 songs and many kids had 4 to 5 lines that they had memorized.  Kindergarteners and 1st graders!!  Sierra's class were stars.  They actually did a whole song and dance number on the stage along with singing back up on 7 other songs.  My only regret is that I wasn't able to get much photo or video with Sullivan in my lap and Desmond by my side.  It was adorable.

Side Note: Sierra only had 1 week of practice before the performance and still knew all the words.  She wasn't scared to get up on stage and had a great time.  We are so proud of our shining star!!
