World Book Day

A note was sent home about a two weeks ago informing parents of World Book Day events for the school.  Sierra knew right away that she wanted to be the the singing mermaid from a book by Julia Donaldson funny enough called, The Singing Mermaid.  There was a huge assembly today where everyone got to parade on stage with their costume and their book.

Here were a sample of the costumes we saw today:

- The Big Friendly Giant from The BFG by Ronald Dahl
- The Queen of Hearts from Alice and Wonderland
- Waldo from Where's Waldo?
- The Tin Man and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz
- Thelma from Scooby Doo
- Loads of Disney Princesses (Anna, Elsa, Snow White, Cinderella)
- Harry Potter

The local Walmart equilvalent has been selling costumes in preparation for this day for about a month.

It was fun reason to dress up and the kids were so excited to be out of their uniforms for the day.  Sierra asked me about a lot of the costumes and even said, "We haven't read those books yet! Maybe we can get some at our library?'  Genius way to get kids talking about books also a fun new tradition to take part in.
